'The fencer' honoured as best Finish film

At the Jussi Award ceremony, the national film awards in Finland, Klaus Härös historical drama "The fencer" has been honoured as best film. Kick Film and the Bayerischer Rundfunk have been one of the co-producers of the film, which tells the story of a Russian fencing master, who goes into hiding as a teacher in the early 1950s in an Estonian town. When he accompanies his pupils to a competition in Leningrad, he risks being arrested.

At the Filmfest Munich ‘The fencer’ won the special prize ‘Die Brücke ' and also received an Oscar nomination for best non-English film. The FFF Bayern has funded the Bavarian-Estonian-Finnish co-production with 200,000 euros for its production.
