CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and THE LAKE: FFF Bayern’s first-time funding for international projects by the VFX producers Trixter and ScanlineVFX

For thefirst time, the FFF has granted funding to Bavarian VFX producers responsiblefor the creative digital imaging for international productions: Trixter for thenext CAPTAIN AMERICA film and Scanline VFX for the action film THE LAKE.

Ilse Aigner, Bavarian Minister for Economics and Media, Energy and Technology and FFF advisory board chairwoman: “The virtual shoot is becoming increasingly more important for large and significant international co-productions. In thisfield, we have several top companies in Bavaria who have made a name forthemselves in Hollywood. With the new possibilities for VFX producers to submit funding applications to FFF Bayern and the targeted increase in funds available, we are supporting local companies in this difficult international competitive market. We are strengthening Bavaria as a VFX location and, simultaneously, the entire film location, which through such digital creativeimaging is bringing additional productions to Bavaria.”

Trixter will start work at the end of August on the Marvel Studios VFX production for the blockbuster sequel CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. The leading roles have beencast with Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and Daniel Brühl.Anthony and Joe Russo will be directing the screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The superhero adaptation is being produced by Vita-Ray-Dutch Productions III, LLC (Marvel Studios) and Studio Babelsberg as a German-American co-production. Walt Disney Motion Pictures will release the film worldwide. FFF Bayern has granted 450,000 Euros in funding support toTrixter for the virtual shoot.

ScanlineVFX is creating extensive digital settings in the coming months for the action film THE LAKE. The leading roles here have been cast with Sullivan Stapleton,Charlie Bewley, Sylvia Hoeks, J.K. Simmons and Clemens Schick. Steven Quale, who already worked on TITANIC and AVATAR and directed FINAL DESTINATION 5 andSTORM HUNTERS, will be directing. THE LAKE will be realized as a Europeanco-production between EuropaCorp SA Paris and Studio Babelsberg. The screenplay was written by Luc Besson and Richard Wenk. FFF Bayern is supporting ScanlineVFX for the virtual shoot with 275,000 Euros.

VFX funding within the framework of the special program for international co-productions was decided upon by the advisory board of FFF Bayern on 15 June 2015 and became effective with the new funding guidelines on 1 July 2015.
