FFF Supports Five International Projects with Bavarian Participation with €2 million

Four international blockbusters are being created with Bavarian participation in the visual effects. And Netflix is planning a series that will be produced by Munich-based Odeon Fiction and shot mainly in the Berchtesgadener Land region.

The FFF is funding the five projects in the program International Theatrical Features and Series.

Bavaria’s Digital Minister Judith Gerlach: “Superhero films have been a guarantee for profitable box offices for years. Now too, they will increase the chances that more people will venture into the cinemas again. I am therefore particularly pleased that four international productions with absolute blockbuster potential are currently being created in which the visual effects are ‘made in Bavaria`. This clearly shows that Bavaria is increasingly becoming a flagship location for outstanding digital effects. In addition, there is another promising series, Kitz, which will primarily be shot and produced in Bavaria. We are pleased to support these five projects with 2 million euros.”

Author and director Chloé Zhao, who is currently in the running for the Golden Lion in Venice with Nomadland, will present her next film, The Eternals. Disney is expected to release the 25th Marvel film next year. The Bavarian company ScanlineVFX is involved in the project as line producer/digital image design. FFF Bayern supports the executive production with 650,000 euros.

The Munich VFX Studio Trixter is involved in three international blockbusters as line producer/digital imaging. With El Dorado, Warner will produce the next action movie from the world of the superhero team Suicide Squad. The other two projects will be produced by Marvel and released by Disney: Natasha Romanoff, also known as Black Widow, the popular supporting character from The Avengers and Iron Man, becomes the protagonist in the superhero drama Blue Bayou - Black Widow, who works as a freelance agent in today’s New York. She will again be played by Scarlett Johansson. With Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Marvel will adapt the comics about the fictional martial artist Shang-Chi. The FFF Bayern supports the executive productions with 100,000 euros (El Dorado), 390,000 euros (Blue Bayou) and 410,000 euros (Shang-Chi).

Maurice Hübner and Lea Becker will direct.
