FFF-funded feature film "The Weight" celebrates world premiere at Sundance
The German-American co-production The Weight, which was funded and shot exclusively in Bavaria, has been invited to the Premieres series of the Sundance Film Festival (22.1-1.2.2026), the festival announced yesterday. The crew also used spectacular locations in the Bavarian Forest as cover backdrops for Oregon.

140 shooting days planned in Bavaria: FFF Bayern supports three series productions for the international market
The FFF Bayern is supporting three new series productions for the international market that will be shot entirely or largely in Bavaria. A total of around 140 days of filming are planned. A Netflix sports drama, in which the Munich studio RiseFX South is involved as line producer for digital image design, is also receiving FFF funding. The committee for the "International Films and Series" program decided on the grants today.

FFF-funded feature films "Cotton Queen" and "Karla" win main prizes in Thessaloniki
The 66th Thessaloniki International Film Festival (30.10. - 9.11.2025) came to an end on Sunday. Three out of four German films in the international competition were made with FFF funding. Two of them won several prizes, including the main prizes of the festival jury and the Fipresci jury.

Michelle Rodriguez and Richard Gere shoot FFF-funded international co-production in Munich
The FFF Bayern is supporting three productions in the International Cinema Films and Series program with a total of 925,000 euros: two projects whose image design will be digitally co-created in Bavaria, as well as a feature film by Ben Younger with Michelle Rodriguez and Richard Gere about a rescue mission above the clouds, which will be shot entirely in Bavaria.

Bavaria as a film location increases international and regional potential: FFF Bayern's Film Commission expands its staff
They are hubs, they acquire projects, provide information and present at trade fairs, support crews with filming preparations, they make locations visible - the Film Commissions, which have been connecting the film world, authorities and the local economy since they were founded more than seventy years ago. The first German Film Commission was founded in Bavaria in 1989. In 1997, it was permanently integrated into the FFF Bayern and, together with the funding team, has been the central point of contact for film productions in Bavaria ever since. Julia von Heinz, Paul Greengrass & Co.: FFF supports six international projects with 4.6 million euros
The committee for funding in the International Feature Films and Series program met yesterday and recommended six projects: Julia von Heinz is bringing Oscar and Golden Globe winners to Bavaria, Paul Greengrass is filming in Penzing and Hager Moss Film is producing a series about a criminal case in divided Cyprus. Three Bavarian companies are also involved in the digital image design of major projects as line producers. A total of 4.6 million euros in FFF funding is being invested in the six productions.
