The German-American action-adventure The Weight, starring Ethan Hawke and Russell Crowe, is currently being shot entirely in Bavaria. With support from the Film Commission, the team has found ideal locations that cover for beautiful Oregon landscapes.
Together with mayor Franz Wittmann and tourism & culture officer Monika Häuslmeier, we met with producer Jonas Katzenstein to have a look behind the scenes of the set in the Viechtach area.
Set in Oregon in 1933, The Weight follows Samuel Murphy, who fights to regain custody of his daughter Penny after the death of his wife and his imprisonment in a labor camp. Under the control of the ruthless warden Clancy, Murphy becomes entangled in a dangerous gold smuggling operation. But it’s not just the perils of the wilderness, betrayal from within threatens the mission as well.
