Keen to be Green: German Film Commissions and National Film Associations Launch the First Nationwide Sustainability Initiative

For the first time, the network of German Film Commissions has launched a nationwide digital event series with the aim of providing individual training to filmmakers in the field of sustainable work processes.

Munich, May 26th 2020 - The series with a total of nine webinars for the fields of set design, costume, production and lighting & cinematography has started under the motto "Keen to be Green". The network of German Film Commissions, together with the Association of Production Design & Costume Professionals, the Federal Association of Production Film and Television, the Federal Association of Production & Production Managers, the German Association of Cinematography and the German Association of Lighting & Stage Technicians, is implementing the training in a target group-specific manner. The German Film Academy, the German Producers Alliance and the German Producers Association support the initiative.

Green Filming & TV expert Philip Gassmann will inform about alternative sustainable raw materials, possibilities for reducing the CO2 footprint, environmentally friendly service providers and other topics in webinars specially tailored to the individual trades of cinematography & lighting, production, set design and costume design. Participation is free of charge. For the remaining webinars there are still places available, creative professionals from the respective fields can register here.

The German Film Commissions are thus using the partially shooting-free period due to the pandemic to provide future-oriented training in individual areas of film practice.

The creative industry, which is committed to the sustainable development of the film and television sector, is taking advantage of the opportunity for free further training within the framework of the sustainability initiative "Keen to be Green" with great response. At the Berlinale 2020, the film and TV industry’s self-declaration for sustainable production was presented and signed under the motto "Film. Moves. Sustainable". The production industry, science and politics aim to develop and implement concrete measures that efficiently and permanently minimize negative ecological effects in the production of films and series as far as possible.

With the "Keen to be Green" initiative of their respective film commissions, the regional German film funding institutions of the German Federal States – FilmFernsehFonds Bayern, Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, HessenFilm und Medien, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, MFG Baden-Württemberg, MDM Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung and nordmedia - Film- und Mediengesellschaft Niedersachsen/Bremen – support the industry in this necessary further training.
